Not enough people to fill necessary jobs around areas of Canada is creating problems. A solution for this is the pilot problem Canada is offering as a new pathway for refuges. It is called the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP), and it is designed to connect employers with those seeking work. Filling those jobs in less time with individuals qualified to complete the tasks is important for the economy of Canada to continue growing.

The program will officially launch in the summer of 2023, and the goal is to fill as many of these jobs as possible during that window of time. Getting the word out to refugees and displaced workers about the jobs available and how to get involved with the program is underway now. Employers are excited about this chance to identify what they are looking for so they can hire the right people to fill these positions.

Some of the areas that continue to see a shortage of employees at this time include:

  • Delivery services
  • Long-term care providers
  • Nurse aids and other medical field help
  • Personal support employees
  • Software engineers
  • Technicians
  • Tourism and hospitality workers
  • Truck drivers

By 2025, the program should be expanded and the goal is to have at least 2,000 refugees enter Canada to work under this pilot program. This will reduce the ongoing labour shortages found throughout many areas of Canada. With this program, officials believe they can break their records of immigrates moving into Canada for permanent residence. The overall growth last year was over 1 million people.

They also focus on students, and welcome them to the area to pursue their studies at a university. They are hopefully many of these students will decide to remain in Canada upon graduation and work in various sectors. There are more than 100 different economic pathways a person can choose to help them enter Canada for work or educational purposes.

Each of them is designed to help people while also helping the economic status of Canada as a whole. These unfilled jobs make it hard to take care of the needs of people. This includes permanent residents and tourists. EMPP is designed to get those with a desire to work into the country faster and help them secure a job they are qualified for.

It is encouraging because the fear of the unknown can make it difficult for a person or a family to decide to relocate to Canada. With EMPP, they know they will connect with potential employers and they can put their skills to work immediately. They won’t be worried about how long it is going to take for them to find a job. On the other end of that, affordable housing and other resources continue to be looked at by policymakers. They know immigrants coming into Canada for work also need their other needs met. They don’t want to see them fall through the cracks because they can’t find a place to live or other essential concepts that influence the quality of life they will have as a resident of Canada.
